Who'd have guessed that nestled underneath the Arsenal-supporting locals watching the match in the Famous Cock Tavern is one of the capital's favourite alt-rock havens? The diminutive red-walled cavern that is the Buffalo Bar is one of those "intimate" London venues where you can easily imagine yourself witnessing the Next Big Thing, up close and very personal - before their egos get too big to squeeze onto the tiny stage, that is. From the Afro-Cuban Lounge to krautrock night Kosmiche club, specialist music of all kinds has found a home here, and regular club nights are hosted by, among others, underground music magazine Careless Talk Costs Lives and garage punk e-zine Artrocker. It's a word-of-mouth sort of place, so when you fin yourself making friends in the queue for the toilet, you're bound to have something in common. Not one for those with a fear of enclosed spaces, but if you're up for cutting-edge music, the Buffalo Bar is for you. Small club, big heart.
